Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of zip4lookup, operated by InfoTilt, Inc.. Using the website or the API means you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you are confirming you have authority to bind it.
1. The service
zip4lookup provides postal address lookup and related tools: ZIP+4 resolution, address standardization, bulk processing, list hygiene, geographic and demographic enrichment, and mailing planning tools. We provide these as they are described on the site, and we may add to, change, or withdraw features.
We are not the United States Postal Service. ZIP Code and ZIP+4 are trademarks of the USPS. We are independent, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the USPS or any government agency.
2. Accounts
You need an account for the API, bulk processing, and paid features. You must give accurate information, keep your password and API keys confidential, and tell us promptly if a key is exposed. You are responsible for everything done with your keys, including by anyone you give them to.
Revoke a compromised key from your dashboard immediately. Because we store only a hash of each key, we cannot recover one for you — we can only help you revoke it and issue a replacement.
One account per person or organisation. Creating multiple free accounts to avoid quotas is a breach of these terms and we will close all of them.
3. Acceptable use
You may not:
- Use the service to harass, stalk, locate, or investigate a specific individual, or to build a people-search, skip-tracing, or identity-resolution product.
- Use it for any purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act — credit, employment, insurance, or tenant screening. We are not a consumer reporting agency and our output is not a consumer report.
- Submit addresses you have no right to process.
- Attempt to reconstruct our underlying address database through systematic querying, or scrape the website.
- Exceed your rate limits deliberately, distribute requests across accounts to evade quotas, or interfere with the service.
- Reverse engineer the service, or use it to build a competing address data product.
- Break the law, or help anyone else do so.
We may suspend or close an account for a breach of this section, usually with notice, immediately where the breach is serious or ongoing.
4. Free tools and anonymous use
Some tools work without an account. They are rate limited by IP address and are provided for interactive human use. Automating them to avoid the API's quotas is a breach of these terms, and we will block the traffic.
5. What you may do with the results
Address and ZIP+4 data is licensed to us from the USPS and from commercial data providers. We are not the owner of it, and our licences restrict what we can pass on. We therefore grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use results within your own business or application, and nothing more.
You may:
- Use results to validate, correct, and standardize addresses in your own systems.
- Store results in your own database for your own use.
- Display results to your own end users as part of your product — in a checkout form, an admin tool, a customer record.
- Use results to prepare and send mail.
You may not:
- Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the data as data. That includes wrapping our API in your own API, reselling lookups, bundling results into a dataset you sell, or making results available to third parties as a lookup service.
- Build a database whose purpose is to substitute for the underlying licensed data, or to reduce your future need to query it.
- Use results to construct a mailing list you sell or rent.
If reselling lookups is your business model, tell us. That requires a different agreement and, on our side, a different upstream licence — it is not something we can permit by exception under these terms, and a conversation is much cheaper for both of us than a breach.
6. Accuracy, and what our results are not
We work from the best data available to us and we cache results for up to 30 days. Addresses change constantly: new construction, renumbering, boundary changes, and monthly USPS file updates. We do not warrant that any result is accurate, current, or complete.
Specifically:
- Sales tax. We identify the taxing jurisdictions at an address. We do not determine whether a transaction is taxable, apply exemptions or exemption certificates, or resolve sourcing rules for the seller. This is not tax advice. Verify with the relevant revenue authority before you file.
- Flood zones. A point-in-polygon result from FEMA's published layer. It is not an official flood determination and does not substitute for an elevation certificate or a lender's determination.
- School districts. We identify districts touching a ZIP. Attendance is assigned by the district at a specific address — confirm with the district.
- Demographics. Census data describes areas, not the household at an address. It is keyed to ZCTAs, which approximate ZIP codes rather than equalling them.
- EDDM. Piece counts come from USPS delivery statistics and drift. Postage rates change. Confirm counts and current pricing at the retail counter before you print.
- CASS certification. Unless we say otherwise in writing, our output is not certified for USPS postage discounts.
- Distances. Great-circle between ZIP centroids, not driving distance.
Decisions with financial, legal, or safety consequences should not rest on an automated lookup alone.
7. Plans, billing, and quotas
Paid plans bill monthly in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time from the billing portal; your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for. Fees already paid are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise, or where we have materially failed to provide the service.
Each plan includes a monthly allowance of lookups. Cached results do not count against it. We do not bill overage. When you reach your allowance the API returns an error and stops, and you upgrade if you want more. Allowances reset on the first of each calendar month.
Rate limits protect the service for everyone and are enforced per key.
We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email. Continuing to use a paid plan after that is acceptance; if you disagree, cancel before the change takes effect.
If a payment fails we may suspend paid features. We will email you and give you a reasonable chance to fix it before closing anything.
8. Your data
You keep all rights in the addresses and lists you submit. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service for you: to process your data, return results, and store them for the periods in our Privacy Policy.
We do not use your uploaded lists to train models or to build any derived product. We do not sell them and we do not share them except with the processors named in the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for having the right to submit what you submit, and for complying with the laws that apply to you — privacy, marketing, and anti-spam law included.
9. Availability
We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee it. There is no service level agreement on any published plan. The service depends on upstream data providers and hosting, and we may need to take it down for maintenance. If you require a contractual SLA, write to us.
10. Intellectual property
The website, the API, the software, the design, and our name and logo belong to InfoTilt, Inc.. The underlying address data belongs to the USPS and to our data providers. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of anything.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely and without obligation.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DATA WILL BE ACCURATE OR CURRENT. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THIS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, INFOTILT, INC. WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL,
OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL,
OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE, WHETHER
IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IN ANY TWELVE-MONTH PERIOD
WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE
MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US
DOLLARS.
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS, SO SOME MAY NOT APPLY
TO YOU. NOTHING HERE LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.
In plain terms: a wrong ZIP+4 can cost you a print run, and we cannot carry that risk at these prices. Verify before you commit to anything expensive — that is what the delivery point confirmation field is for.
13. Indemnity
You will indemnify and hold harmless InfoTilt, Inc. and its officers, employees, and agents against any claim, damage, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your breach of these terms, your violation of law, or a claim that data you submitted infringed someone's rights.
14. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account for breach of these terms, non-payment, or conduct that risks the service or other users — with notice where practical, immediately where the problem is serious or ongoing.
On closure your access ends, and your data is deleted on the schedule in the Privacy Policy. Sections 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 15 survive.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of , without regard to conflict of laws rules.
Talk to us first. Before filing anything, write to legal@zip4lookup.com describing the problem and what you want. We will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. Most disputes end here.
If that fails, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in , and both of us consent to that jurisdiction. Either of us may bring a claim in small claims court instead if it qualifies.
Any claim must be brought within one year of when it arose, or it is waived, to the extent the law permits.
16. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in a merger or sale of the business.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed to account holders at least 14 days before taking effect. Continuing to use the service after that is acceptance; if you disagree, close your account.
Nothing here creates a partnership, agency, or employment relationship.
